The Window Gallery of Busan Centum Hospital is hosting the solo exhibition 《Paradise》 by remarkable installation artist Jeong Chan-ho from Busan for the first time this year. In this exhibition, artist Chan-ho Jeong is keenly criticizing the contemporary urban image that looks glamorous with everyday and familiar materials to everyone, and inquiring about the social role of art.
'Paradise', which is the title of the exhibition and the title of the work, is a thread curtain. The curtain, which divides the interior and exterior spaces to block the gaze, or divides the space to function as a screen, is a completely different feeling from its original function in this work. The curtain of thread that has fallen inadvertently is not a representation of a physical city, but rather a representation of the spirit of the modern people who live there. The thread curtain, which is a high-rise building in the city center, shows the modern beauty of the city by gathering each thread to create the face, silhouette, and space of the architectural structure as a cube. However, when the steeply rising and jagged skyline flutters in the wind, the artist makes us think about the two-sided aspects of the city.
The window gallery installed on the outer wall of the hospital is located at the Suyeong intersection where there is a large floating population, so even if you do not use the hospital, it is meaningful as it can be a cultural space and a relaxation space that many people can enjoy in the city center. In addition, since last year, we have been holding planned exhibitions by emerging local artists, so it will be an exhibition that contributes to social contribution through art, such as contributing to fostering artists in regions with fewer opportunities than in the metropolitan area.
